Business
Administration At ABU
Statistics Canada says that, regardless of
the number of
university programs offered across the country,
Business/Commerce continues to be the number one
program of choice for students.
The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
Degree
at ABU is somewhat unique in Atlantic Canada because it
begins with a liberal arts core. This gives students a dual
advantage: a solid liberal arts foundation and skills
necessary for a professional career in various areas of
business administration.
It is also unique in Atlantic Canada in that
we approach
the study of business in light of the Christian faith.
The program is also completely integrated with the latest
technology. A fully equipped computer lab affords
students access to the World Wide Web where the world
and all the information that is on the web is at their
fingertips. The use of technology is also practically
integrated into many of our courses.
Program Description
The BBA in Business Administration program
consists
of:
• A concentration in the field of Accounting, which
satisfies many requirements of the Professional
Accounting Associations in Canada, i.e. CA, CGA,
CMA.
• Courses in two other major fields of Business
Administration studies: Marketing and Management.
These, along with a wide range of business
related
courses, provide Business graduates from ABU with a
great set of marketable skills for which today’s employers
are looking.
Why major in Business Administration?
David Foot, in his book, Boom, Bust, Echo says: “ .
. .
investment dealers, mutual fund companies, financial
planners, and banks are poised for major growth over the
next two decades” (p. 51).
Our lives cannot exist outside of the business environment.
Every day we interact with the world of business: buying a
loaf of bread, filling your car with gas, making a deposit or
withdrawal at your local banking machine. These tasks that
are commonplace to us today require personnel to supervise,
manage and maintain.
At ABU we equip students to interact effectively
in this business environment, and to be “movers and shakers” in
a
global business environment.
At ABU, we also equip students with skills for the future.
These skills will provide students with opportunities that
will make them more compatible with the employment
scene, no matter how it changes.
Export Partnering Program
This program partners ABU with the Atlantic
Canada Opportunities Agency (A.C.O.A.) and small business
enterprises. It provides, from time to time, the
opportunity for senior Business Administration students
to participate in a practical international marketing program.
This program is 26 weeks in duration and ends with a short
trade mission organized by A.C.O.A. In 2000-2001 ABU
partnered with three businesses and attended the trade
mission to New England in the U.S.A.
This program provides a key element to business education
for the next millennium—international experience. This
keeps ABU and its students at the forefront of training in
the field of global marketing.
