The House of the Vestals Virgins was the residence for the priestesses who served at the Temple of Vesta.  Girls between six and ten years of age, first from the patrician class and then the plebian, were recruited to serve at the Temple of Vesta.  Taking a vow of celibacy, a vestal virgin's sacerdotal service lasted thirty years.
