Troubleshooting for The Scroll, Multimedia Study Bible for Windows, CD-ROM
Version 1 & 2
TROUBLESHOOTING
Multimedia titles place great demands on PC hardware. Playing video, audio and
animation requires powerful systems with fast displays and disc drivers. Many problems
reported with multimedia titles are really system problems; for example, a bug in a video
driver can cause distracting display problems such as annoying flashing, split image,
smearing or flickering. A bug in an audio driver can cause skips and pops in correctly
authored sound sequences. These bugs can occur even when other software titles run without
the bugs showing up. ECM has no control over bugs in hardware. You may need to check with
the manufacturer of your hardware and get a newer version of the driver.

PROBLEM: Information seems to appear in the improper box and text becomes
confused on the screen.
SOLUTION: Simply exit the program and reopen the program.

VIDEO PLAYBACK
If you recieve an error while trying to view video files (.AVI), try installing the
Microsoft Video for Windows package, by running SETUP.EXE located in the VFW116 directory
found on the SCROLL CD.
COLORS
If the colors in the menu's and photographs looks like they are in black and white but the
help contents menu has colour then you have your computer display set to16 colors and you
must change the display to 256 colors. This can be done from the windows set-up (3.1) or
My Computer/Control Panel/Display in windows95. This assumes that you have a SVGA monitor
and have the proper Video Driver. NOTE: Changing your video Driver to one that is not
supported by the video card could cause the monitor to go blank and require a reloading of
windows. BE CAREFUL Check your Video Card manual and windows manual before making changes.
Once the Video driver is set to 256 everything will be in full colour.
If the background images change colour during loading or viewing it may be as a result of
images being displayed in windows from another program loaded into memory. Resizing the
window will usually clear up the problem and bring back the original colors. If this does
not return the original colors to the image then you may need to close the other program
you have displayed in windows. Some of the colors will change on the screen when the video
clips are played but will return to normal when the video clip is finished. This is normal
for the program and is not a bug. Colors are simply being shared with the screen and the
video takes the priority.
RESOLUTION
The Program will run best in 800 X 600 display resolution. It will also run fine in 1024 X
768 but will remain reduced in size due to the images. The program will not be able to
viewed properly in 640 X 480. The main window images and button bars will be pushed off
the screen. Change the display resolution to 800 X 600 for best results. Your windows
set-up program will have the instructions.
WINDOWS 3.0
This program has been written for Windows 3.1 or higher. Multimedia features will only
work with 3.1 or higher. Also the Search dialogue box is not supported under Windows 3.0.
WINDOWS NT
Viewer 2.0 has not been fully tested on Windows NT. Wave sound files and Video clips may
not run properly under the Windows NT environment.
WINDOWS 95
The program has been tested in Windows 95 and runs without any known problems. The
Scroll.ico can be used to set up the program on the Start window.
WINDOWS 98
The program has been tested in Windows 98 and runs without any known problems. The
Scroll.ico can be used to set up the program on the Start window.

TANDY SENSATION
When a 32,000 or 64,000 colour video driver is used to play AVI video or animation clips
you may get one of the following errors. MMTASK caused a Stack Fault in module P32K480.DRV
at 0008:153E -or-MMTASK caused a Stack Fault in module P64K480.DRV at 0008:151Christ
If you restart your system after this error occurs, and run the clip again it will run but
may be smeared. This is a Tandy driver problem.

PRINTER LIMITATIONS AND RESOLUTIONS
The Scroll is subject to the following limitations when printing. The following printer
limitations DO NOT apply if you are running the scroll on Windows 95. The following is a
list of some Viewer printing problems and possiblesolutions.
![]()
PROBLEM: GP Faults occur with some AMI BIOS and COMPAQ 286 BIOS.
SOLUTION: From the Edit menu, choose the Copy command to copy the
information to a text editor Windows) and print the text from that application.
![]()
PROBLEM: Selected keywords you search on are printed as black boxes on
Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet series printers. For example, when you search on the text
"God", Viewer selects (highlights) all occurrences of the word "God"
in the articles. All selected occurrences of "God" will print as black boxes
from Viewer. This has also been observed on other printer models, but has not been
confirmed.
SOLUTION: From the Edit menu, choose the Copy command to copy the
information to a text editor and print the text from that application.
![]()
PROBLEM: When you use print topic command no copyright signature is
printed with the text.
SOLUTION: From the Edit menu, choose the Copy command to copy the
information to a text editor and print the text from that application. The Copyright
signature will be automatically included in the copy window at the bottom of the text.
![]()
PROBLEM: When extended characters copy to the Windows Clipboard they are
converted to vertical bars. As a result, it is not possible to correct this problem by
copying text to another application.
SOLUTION: You can substitute characters from the Windows Character Map
for extended characters. Copy the Viewer text to a word processing application, make
changes using the Character Map substitutions, and print from that application.
![]()
PROBLEM: Printing to the non-default printer is not possible from The
Scroll. Selecting an alternate printer within The Scroll by choosing Printer Set-up from
the File menu has no effect.
SOLUTION: To change the active printer used by The Scroll, change the
default printer setting in the Windows Control Panel.
